Getting in God’s Face

My guru says don’t be shy about getting in God’s face.

You’re His child, after all.

Hat-in-hand is no way to approach your parent.

Demand what serves your noblest aspirations.

So I say: G, I’ve boiled it down.  I need two things to feel the path I’m traveling is blessed.

First, a new home for my boys.  Red Wolf and Dr. Love.  Retrievers of gold.  Ages nine and eight.  I’ve been their main man since they were two months.

I’m leaving Vermont, home since ’93.  A friend of 50 years and I have become sweethearts.  She lives in Santa Fe.  Taking the boys with me isn’t possible.

“New home” means one that makes my heart rejoice.

Second, living space in Santa Fe heavy on solitude and silence.  Where whispers from eternity await to be heard.

That’s it.  Nothing else.  No fame, fortune, front teeth.  Though fresh kale is always welcome.

Exactly two days later, which happened to be the twenty-two month anniversary of my beloved’s suicide, both conditions were met in spades.

I live a charmed life.

That I still complain, even a little, is humbling.

Hard to get in God’s face about that.

Manifesting splendid accommodations for me and and the boys, sure.

My seeing everything through the eyes of love.  That’s a little trickier.

After all, how I define my world actually creates my world.

Surely one of the great divine gifts is the amusing humility that comes from the realization that I’ve created the world I’m complaining about.

That’s awesome you’re moving to Santa Fe. I go down there every Labor Day weekend for a reunion with some buddies. Perhaps we can connect for a cup of coffee or something. It would be great to catch up!
