Great Teacher Trump

In the same way that Trump didn’t cause 8 million people to gather throughout the nation in opposition to the disharmony he champions, but he certainly did trigger their gathering, Trump’s presence in the world overall is a trigger for the human family to be reminded of one of life’s most valuable principles: that how we define our world creates our world.  Which is to say, Trump is not responsible for a single thing we think and feel about him or about anything else.

That’s because our every thought, opinion and feeling is caused solely by how we define reality.  Other people and circumstances may trigger a response, but they never cause one.  Trump, unknowingly, is giving us, the human family, a dramatic opportunity to embrace this principle that is such a vital part of a healthy life.

Those of us who gathered in thousands of communities on Saturday didn’t do so because of Trump, even though many of us no doubt thought we did.  We gathered because of our own sense of things that includes a definition of integrity that made gathering an action we felt obliged to take.

As we embrace that that principle guides every choice we make, we will come to be grateful to Trump for being an agent of our growing maturity.  Isn’t it beautifully ironic that such an unhealthy person as Trump can help us appreciate an essential element of health for every one of us: the willingness and ability to assume responsibility for everything we think and feel.

Among the great things we learn in life is that anytime we say, “This makes me [fill in the blank],” we’re mistaken—unless, of course, we’re talking about our own definition of reality.
